Are there two separate trays?
No. You receive one tray with two usable sides: a food surface with a drink recess, and a smoother work surface with a pen groove.
Can it be used as a small laptop desk?
The reverse side can provide a surface for a suitably sized device or notebook. Check the available space, tray fit and stability first. Device fit is not universal, and no load rating is claimed.
